Step Sister is pleased to present a two person exhibition of new works by Adriane Connerton and Stefan Hoza. Connerton’s paintings of posing figures wearing moisturizing face masks and tanning examine the convergence of “wellness” and social media. Distorted by cosmetic treatments the individuals become abstract versions of their own projected image. The trolls that populate Hoza’s canvases position themselves as amalgamated avatars, taking influence from art historical references, Scandinavian folklore and the likeness of neoliberal economists. The oral and literary history of trolls is set against the context of current interpretations of “trolling”. The multiple forms of these characters appear in various environments as babies, coworkers and villains.
