I wanted to have a show in a library, because I thought I was interested in archives, collective memory and spaces that state they are open for all. I thought that I would interview my parent about their job as a librarian. The tone could be didactic and serious.

In the end I made fashionable objects and technically unusable clothes. I want to exhibit them at the library, alongside small paintings I’ve painted. Maybe the exhibition will be sparkling and summery, without the professionalism and gloom of the fashion world. Just an attempt; a light fantasy.

I’m writing this text at Oodi, Helsinki’s new central library. I cannot concentrate on the writing, as I’m over-aware of how I become a part of a certain gaze on the space, an item in a sequence of images taken by journalists and tourists. National branding: basic services offered in the form of a spectacle. I’m performing work, study and creativity. Even libraries have become fashion.

Maybe Vallila will offer tranquility. There is a hammock in the exhibition space. You can lie there. The only disturbance is the expectant presence of the artwork.
