Screening: 'Last Page', a clip by Nicholas Matthew Elstran featuring a track from upcoming EP of migu

set in an abandoned MMORPG where players were able to experience quasi-immortality, via neural interface time dilation.
Approaching the entropic limits of the substrate,
vast oceans of time have come and gone,

and the world is dissolving into mist.
The players have almost all left.
The last remaining ancient inhabitants
drift through the landscape visiting shrines.

‘The Disappearance Of Memories’ is the debut EP of migu - lower case m -, the French multidisciplinary artist Igor Dubreucq, on the Italian label Rest Now!. In his upcoming EP, migu travels between delicate melodies, altered trance and autotune layers.

In his new EP, migu projects himself through characters, giving them an identity, a voice, a story, as in the complex weave of science-fiction universes. This allows him to express deep emotions that are difficult to share in real life. The feelings are amplified in the characters, but they are part of his questions and his nightmares. ‘The Disappearance of Memories’ represents the artist’s palette of emotions like a painful storm. Through the sizzle of the overdrive, he tries to describe the power one could feel when the body, love and memory disintegrate.

The EP opens with the delicate track ‘Ineria’, made of a fragile piano line that evolves with the progression of the piece and interrupted only by a series of broken incursions. The same distorted elements are reprised and processed in ‘Slay Me’, with the fundamental addition of the rhythmical and vocal component, while approaching the conceptual core of the EP. The violent track ‘Play With You’ shows the dance floor potential of migu, with deeply pitched and distorted vocals over an intense drum kick, the whole permeated in an overwhelming and eerie soundscape. ‘Last Page’ reprises the delicateness of the beginning, thanks to a graceful vocal line, in a sequence of massive digital collapses. The experience is closed by ‘TTS’, which combines all the elements of the EP in a mixture between anamorphic distortions, unearthly voices, and bittersweet piano melodies, giving a perfect summa of the entire project.
