Black Tarantula takes its title from The Childlike Life of The Black Tarantula by the Black Tarantula, the first published work by american algerian author Kathy Acker. The novel is a collage of personal memoirs and appropriated fragments from a variety of sources: Dorothy Dunbar and William Bolitho Ryall’s murderess tales, William Butler Yeats autobiography and Marquis de Sade’s Justine: Philosophy in the Bedroom.
Within an intimate and personal setting, Black Tarantula proceeds on a similar trajectory justapposing photographs by Kiernan Francis with autoportraits of Timothe Riffault selected by Jante Alliage and a new text by cyber core transgender legenda Helena Velena with texts by artists Costanza Candeloro and Aurélien Potier. In such a mashup of fragments of works, spaces and times, the exhibition attempts to articulate a transgenerational marginal resistance against patriarchal forms of oppression and belief-system.
