I have a character in my novel that is getting teleported via a cell phone. They will be digitized and travel through the cellular network, land lines, and possibly air. I am drawing a blank as to how this would feel. I welcome any examples from books or even your opinion on how you think it would feel.

Considering it would at some point detach your nerves from your body, you wouldn’t feel much of anything.

I think it would tickle.

I was thinking about the sick route. At least it would give a strong sense of vertigo.

How do you want it to feel? Kinda like an elastic band.

If it’s through the cell phone, then I imagine the manufacturers of the technology would have come up with a way to make it not feel too painful, otherwise the technology wouldn’t sell rite?

There’s also the problem of people asking “Where does your soul go?” The company that does this will no doubt have a customer service department with priests and rabbis on call to answer these questions and quell custoners’ fears.Ha! I like that a lot.

My first thought was that you shouldn’t forget about SOUND. Describing the sound effects could be just as interesting as the visuals. My second thought was that, if the scene is written from the character’s POV, and he/she is being broken down into elemental particles, or whatever, how will the character be able to experience the sound and sights without organs? Just a little conundrum.

Quoting myself = sad, but…I teleported home one daywith Ron and Sid and Meg.Ron stole Meggy’s heart awayand I got Sidney’s leg.To clarify, I stole that from Douglas Adams. I think it was from the first Hitchhiker book although I can’t be sure. The Vogon poetry did a CTRL-ALT-DEL on my brain.

Sounds less like the general idea of “teleportation”, and more like digital transportation.

Why do you have to feel anything? Couldn’t it be instantaneous?

Afterawards, you feel a little itchy, but that passes.

Teleportation gives you a residual fascination with shower curtains.

Sounds like the after-effects of a one-night stand.

LOL!It’s more subliminal. e.g. “I really want Triscuits!” and then, “Nighty night, mmmph.”

Last time I teleported to Deathwizards, he was already out of cheese, so I had to go. No hard feelings, though! You have to understand what it’s like without cheese.

I line my doorway with cheese especially for last minute teleporters.

Oh, see! Thinking in advance always renders good results! SP planning ahead!Sorry, DW. Next time, I’ll grab a hunk of brie in the teleporter.

I might make a brie in pastry for the family party on Jan. 2nd. If you te;leport there, I will share!Teleporting, however, seriously, can make you itchy. Best to teleport to a warm climate with a spa.

I’ll bring some guac! Can I come too? I’ll bring a back scratcher for all the teleportation itchies.
