Perce Jerrom’s practise explores online cultures to respond to notions of whiteness, toxic masculinity and male fragility. He investigates how these issues have seemingly coincided with a resurgence of right-wing extremism. This is mainly based on research into the indoctrination of young men on forum-based websites such as 4chan and Reddit, but also elsewhere online. Borne from an initial sociological interest into the freedoms allowed in these often anonymous online spaces, as well as the creative actions partaken by these individuals. These places have become ideological battlegrounds, increasingly events online are having real world implications including recent political upheavals in the West as well as violent attacks committed by individuals with links to these spaces.

His works are based on sourced texts, images and events that have occurred online and offline. Which often reference particular cultural symbols from popular film, TV, music and computer games. Pieces are created physically and digitally, working between video, installation, sculpture and print, mimicking the memetic processes found online.

For his upcoming exhibition at Koraï project space, Jerrom is reworking elements found within outsider horror fiction online (these texts are known as creepy pastas) to explore current and historical issues inherent in argumentative rhetoric. He is creating a new video essay which will be housed within an installation, this will also include sculptural and print based works made whilst attending his residency at Koraï.
