There is a conventional list of nine signs with which any living being must comply: nourishment, breathing, excretion, growth, evolution, mortality, reproduction, heredity, and sentience. Although, inanimate nature often meets these criteria as well. Furthermore, the number of these features may vary depending on what scientific sources we consult. Note: that what guarantees survival in one situation may prove useless in another. Thus, seeking to establish vitality of any particular being, we cannot rely on the analytical method.
