“In itself, recycling and upcycling is a very anti-capitalist activity and can be regarded as a form of activism.”
— Tenant of Culture
In a generation where waste is an imminent concern, ecological social responsibility has been ingrained into our collective consciousness. The half-life of an object is now a necessary point of consideration in our cultural climate. It is impossible to disentangle the inherent duality of a work of art being both a contemporary artifact but also a material amalgam. The works in Transformers are composites, patchworked from pre-existing objects, upcycled garments, industrial metal devices, or everyday materials that have been transformed into new assemblages, sculptures, and installations.
